Weather Weenie Forecast Resources

National weather service

Enter your zipcode on the top left, or click on the map. This is also where you can check the HOURLY GRAPH or the FORECAST DISCUSSION.

This is THE forecast source to trust. The best meteorologists that have access to all forecast models. They know their stuff.

MY radar

What weather app is my favorite? My Radar. Download it, enable location services, and it will notify you when it’s about to rain or snow, and tell you if you are placed under watches or warnings.

storm prediction center

Want to know your risk for severe weather for the next 1-3 days? SPC has your back. Check the CONVECTIVE OUTLOOKS to see what your risk is on a scale of 1-5. Also look at tornado/hail/wind risk. See where future watches are possible in MESO DISCUSSIONS. Last, their STORM REPORTS tell you what happened after.

pivotal weather

All the forecast models! Now with great power comes great responsibility. Different models have different strengths and weaknesses so use with caution. I use HRRR for the 1-2 day, and GFS for the 2-7 day but they are far from perfect. Use weather.gov forecast discussions as the best source of timing info.

national hurricane center

The best source of information with hurricanes in North America. Click on any storm you are interest in, or scroll down the page to see individual storm details.

Another good hurricane source is MIKES WEATHER MODELS, but it’s not as intuitive for the public.

weather prediction center

I use this one less often but it has great resources, like to look at QPF by day or over multiple days. Similar info as NWS and SPC but shown slightly different.
